There is a common story in Buddhism about a professor who went to talk to a zen master. The professor spends most of the time talking over the master, basically showing off. The master eventually starts pouring tea for the professor, but doesn’t stop pouring. When the tea fills the cup and starts to overflow the professor shouts, “stop, no more tea will fit”. The master responds, “You are like this cup. You ask for teaching but your cup is full. Before I can teach you, you must empty your cup.”
Emptiness is the starting point, when you are in a state of confusion, anger or blaming. As Bruce Lee shared with us, being empty is an opportunity to be filled. When your cup is empty, you can fill it with new and exciting healthy beverages, while taking your Vitamins.
“In order to taste my cup of water, you must first empty your cup. My friend, drop all of your preconceived and fixed ideas and be neutral. Do you know why this cup is useful? Because it is empty.” ~ Bruce Lee
